When asked what advice he would give to other communities considering a senior living POS implementation, Gary emphasized the importance of purpose and planning. “Think about the why – don’t just implement a POS system because it’s shiny or new,” he advised.

Amica launched 9 locations initially, with 4 more coming soon and 6 rolled out in just 3 months. “We’re hoping to finish by February or March next year,” Gary shared.

A successful multi-site POS implementation, he explained, requires more than just technology; it demands clear communication, cross-functional collaboration, and measurable goals. “Communicate, communicate, communicate,” he stressed, noting the importance of involving internal stakeholders from culinary, finance, IT and operations.

He also suggested having IT support available to troubleshoot and ensuring that the team aligns with what success looks like. “Have some goals so that you can measure it,” he added, reinforcing the value of a data-driven approach to CCRC dining technology.

"My advice is to think about the ‘why’ and communicate, communicate, communicate,” Gary advised. Team buy-in – especially from chefs and frontline staff – was essential. "
